Who is this course for?

This course is suitable for students looking to strengthen and deepen their understanding of advanced mathematical concepts.

Who will deliver the course?

Working with Hussain, a PHD qualified GCSE Maths examiner with over 20 years of experience teaching and tutoring. Students will look at advanced variations and applications of foundational mathematical questions to push their understanding of high level mathematical concepts and refine their abilities ahead of their upcoming GCSE Examinations.

Entry Requirement: Knowledge of the Year 10 GCSE Higher Course

Number of Sessions: 8 sessions (1 hour each)

Course Structure: 2 sessions per week (1 hour per session)

Topic of the Month: This months sessions will be focusing on Probability and the interpretation of categorical data through charts, tables and diagrams.

Topics & Lesson Objectives:

 

WEEK ONE

Lesson 1&2: Probability Space Diagrams for Combined Events

Construct theoretical possibility spaces for single and combined experiments with equally likely outcomes and use these to calculate theoretical probabilities.

 

WEEK TWO

Lesson 3&4: Probability of Independent & Dependent Combined Events using Tree Diagrams, etc.

Calculate the probability of independent and dependent combined events, including using tree diagrams and other representations, and know the underlying assumptions.

 

WEEK THREE

Lesson 5&6: Conditional Probability

Calculate and interpret conditional probabilities through representation, using expected frequencies with two-way tables, tree diagrams and Venn diagrams.

 

WEEK FOUR

Lesson 7&8: Frequency Tables, Bar Charts, Pie Charts, Pictograms for Categorical Data

Interpret and construct tables, charts and diagrams, including frequency tables, bar charts, pie charts and pictograms for categorical data.
